1st VOP Race - 04/09/99
Spt 6th, Maiden Special Weight, 1 mile 70
yards, track muddy. Purse $25,000. Carlos Marquez up.
Prince Mambo raced very
greenly
in his career debut. After causing a ruckus in the paddock, Prince
Mambo settled down once on the track. He broke from the gate very
well, and was quickly taken back. "Red" raced far behind
the field throughout the contest. Carlos asked him for some run
down the stretch, but Prince Mambo was more concerned with avoiding
the flying dirt kicked up by horses in front of him. He managed
to pass one horse and was gaining on another when the wire came.
Prince Mambo's running line: 4-8-9

and raced five wide around the clubhouse turn. Down the backside
he was shaken up and whipped, b
ut showed little desire to run
hard. Prince Mambo was distanced by the field and was listed as
a DNF in the official race chart.
