Hagley's Mister



Hagley's Mister is a 4 year colt by Lucky North out of a Hagley dam, Hagley's Miss making him Itbaya's (VOP's leading money earner) brother. He was purchased from his breeder (and one of the nation's leading owners) John Franks via a private sale. HM is being conditioned by Sam David Jr. at SHRP for his first start in December.

VOP 2001 Campaign

1st VOP Race - 12/21/01 Paddock and post and SHRP stretch run videos and Results

SHRP 4th, mdclm10000, 1 - 1/16 mile, track firm. Purse $5,800. Ted Damascus Gondron up.

Hagley's Mister broke to the front and took to the rail leading the race and was being pressed by a couple others all the way to the finial turn. Losing the lead but re-gaining it gamely and opening up by for lengths in the stretch as the #4 came from way back thundering down the stretch winning by a length with Hagley's mister holding on for 2nd.
A very good race by Hagley's Mister.  

VOP 2002 Campaign

2nd VOP Race - 1/18/02 Paddock and post and PP's

SHRP 4th, mdclm10000, 1 - 1/16 mile, track firm. Purse $5,800. Ted Damascus Gondron up.

Hagley's Mister with a rush to the front at the start from a post 11 and holding the lead got caught 4 wide in both turns. He did not like rating or dirt and other horses behinds in his face. Coming out of the second turn he displaced his soft palate. Ted knew something was wrong and suspected this or bleeding so let him coast home for last.

3rd VOP Race - 2/1/02 Post and race (25MB AVI file) Results Win picture

Hagley's Mister with a rush to the front starting from post 7 grabbed the lead pulled away at the top of the stretch by 2 but was out of steam coming up to the wire but held on by a neck for the WIN! An outstanding race!

4th VOP Race - 3/1/02 Post and race (LARGE AVI file) and PP's

SHRP 10th 1 and one-sixteenth miles Turf ALLOWANCE. Purse $14,500 (PLUS UP TO $1,160 FROM ATBOIA) For four year olds and upward which have never won a race other than maiden, claiming, starter, or trial or which have never won two races. Weight 123 lbs. Non-winners of a race other than claiming at a mile or over since January 1 allowed, 3 lbs. Such a race since December 1, 5 lbs.

Dueled early and gave way.

5th VOP Race - 3/13/02 and 1st Turf Post and race (3MB WMV file) Just Audio Results PP's

SHRP 1-1/8 MILES Turf Claiming Purse $8,400 (PLUS UP TO $672 FROM ATBOIA) for four year olds and upward which have never won two races. Weight 123 lbs. Non-winners of a race at a MILES or over since January 9 allowed, 3 lbs. Such a race since December 9, 5 lbs. Claiming price $25,000, if for $20,000, allowed 2 lbs.

One heck of a great race. Hagley's Mister 5th after taking the lead early on and holding his ground until the late late stretch where he tired and was passed by a pack of four horses. A silly sixteenth shorter and he would have had it all wrapped up.

6th VOP Race - 4/21/02 

LS 1-1/16 Mile Claiming. Purse $8,500 (plus up to $850 From ATBOIA) for three year olds and upward which have never won two races. Three Year Olds 115 lbs.; Older 121 lbs. claiming price $10,000.

Set the early pace, pressed backstretch, lost the lead early on the backstretch, vied past the quarter pole, and faded.

HAGLEY'S MISTER was sent hard to the front while angling over, set the pace along the rail to the far turn and emptied out nearing upper stretch coming in seventh.

8th VOP Race - 7/6/02 PP's Results Chart

HAGLEY'S MISTER Merle got the lead at the start. Had the rail 1st turn. Got pushed by the 4 after a 1/4 backstretch. Lead by 1/2 length into the 2nd turn. Then got passed mid turn 1/4 in 24:73 1/2 in 49:23 final    1:32:85
Offical comment "was hustled along the rail, dueled for command to the far turn and emptied out after five furlongs".

10th VOP Race - 7/25/02 PP's Results Chart

HAGLEY'S MISTER angled inwards soon after the break while engaging a rival for command, dueled outside that foe into the backstretch and dropped out on the far turn. Looks ready to be retired.

11th VOP Race - 8/08/02  Results Chart

HAGLEY'S MISTER went quickly to the fore, forced the pace along the rail for a half and gave way abruptly.

Hagley's Mister is being retired - Texas partners Jerry & Joan Klum have acquired HM and he will have another retired VOP horse American Fighter as a stable mate. Thanks to the Klum's big hearts these two horses will have an excellent retirement.
