Celestial Song

Celestial Song was claimed by the Virtual Owners Partnership on October 21, 1998, at Hawthorne Race Course. A '95 filly by Tiger Star, out of Hot Note by Treasury Note, Celestial Song was bred in Illinois by Apple Hill Farms. At the time of her claim, Celestial Song had a lifetime record of 8-1-1-2, with earnings of $17,520

• 1st VOP Race - 02/21/99
Spt 8th, Clm10000n2L, 6f, track fast. Purse $11,000. Abner Sorrows up.
Celestial Song broke well,but could not keep pace with her rivals, falling steadily back in the pack. She was eased to the finish line in a disappointing effort.

• 2nd VOP Race - 03/05/99

Celestial Song broke well, and raced in and among the leaders for the first five furlongs. Passing the eighth pole, Celestial Song began to tire slightly, was passed by two horses on the outside, and held on to finish fifth.

3rd VOP Race - 03/20/99

Celestial Song broke fourth in the field of ten and maintained her position in the second flight for the first half-mile. Never far back, Celestial Song closed three lengths in the final three-sixteenths and just missed the win by a narrowing neck!

• 4th VOP Race - 04/09/99

Celestial Song broke quickly and raced forwardly through the first half of the race. She settled into seventh place, but she was only about three lengths from the lead. Entering the far turn, Celestial Song was squeezed between horses and checked badly, losing ten lengths and falling to tenth place in the process. Having lost all chance for hitting the board, Mark wrapped her up down the stretch. Celestial Song passed three tiring horses to finish seventh, 12.5 lengths behind the winner.

• 5th VOP Race - 04/23/99

Celestial Song broke well and settled well off of the fast early pace. She raced in sixth place, 6.5 lengths behind the leader through the first four furlongs. Turning for home, Mark took the inside route, but three horses in front of Celestial Song formed a wall, shutting off the rail throughout the stretch run,. Inside the 16th pole, Mark took a game Celestial Song outside of horses. She was full of run but had little chance to improve her position before hitting the wire.

6th VOP Race - 05/09/99

Celestial Song broke very quickly from the 12th post position. Larry hustled her down the backside, and she outsprinted ten of her foes to the far turn. Celestial Song dropped nicely to the rail, in second place entering the turn. She tracked the leader around the turn and took over the lead at the 3/16ths pole. She held her lead until the final hundred yards, where she ran out of gas and was passed by two rivals. She finished up nicely in a fine effort from a difficult post.

• 7th VOP Race - 05/24/99

Celestial Song broke cleanly and settled into 4th place, about seven lengths off of the leader. She ran evenly before making a move on the far turn that brought her to within 2.5 lengths, battling for second place. Inside the eighth pole, Celestial Song tired and faded to finish 4th, beaten just 5.25 lengths.

8th VOP Race - 06/15/99

Celestial Song broke on the lead but allowed the early speed to take over immediately. Larry got her to rate very well in third place, seven to eight lengths off the very fast early fractions. When Larry pushed the button turning for home, Celestial Song fired, collared the tiring front runner, and coasted home by daylight, drawing off as she hit the wire. A solid, well run victory for this filly.

Celestial Song ran evenly in mid-pack throughout this race. She never reached contention, although she moved up slightly at the head of the stretch. She seemed to tire in the final furlong, finishing 7th, beaten by nearly eight lengths.

Celestial Song debuted at Fairmount Park from the barn of Eddie Essenpreis. She was taken back at the start and raced evenly through the first half-mile. Celestial Song made a mild gain through the stretch, passing two tiring rivals to finish 5th, more than 11 lengths behind the winner.

Celestial Song pressed the pace early in the race before being outrun in the stretch while drifting out. She finished a distant fourth, almost 10 lengths behind the winner.

Celestial Song stumbled badly leaving the gate, and was never really in this one at all. She passed a couple of tiring horses late to get up for seventh, beaten by more than 11 lengths.

Celestial Song raced on the pace, just two lengths from the lead through the first quarter mile. She made a slight move on the turn, moving to contention for the win. Celestial Song tired somewhat in the stretch, unable to catch the winner, and passed by a fast closing #2 horse. She finished third, nearly five lengths from the lead.
